3 Fishy Social Media Trends That Are Making Waves With Gen Z Seafood Consumers

Social media has become an essential part of everyday life for most people - especially Gen Z. They're the first generation that's grown up with social media and so, I'd argue, they're also the savviest with it.

Which is why I'm personally thrilled by the unique and innovative ways that Gen Z has taken seafood to social media.

Here are three seafood related trends that Gen Z has taken viral in the last year.

Tinned Fish Date Night

Tinned Fish Date Night was probably one of the first times that seafood went viral on platforms like TikTok. Today, there are entire hashtags dedicated to #tinnedfishtok where you'll find millions of people sharing their artistically styled seacuterie boards and sharing live videos of them unboxing their monthly tinned fish subscriptions.

The cute packaging and convenience of tinned fish is no doubt what sparked a massive interest in this seafood product among young consumers.

Sushi Bakes

The sushi bake trends that rose to popularity last year did not surprise me at all. I recently wrote a piece about why sushi is so popular among younger consumers. But, sushi can actually be pretty challenging and time consuming to make at home.

Enter: sushi bake.

This deconstructed version of a sushi roll requires much less skill to create and the baking aspect squashes any fears that younger consumers might have about handling raw fish at home.

Caviar Bumps

Caviar Bumps are the latest fishy trend taking social media by storm. Caviar bumps began popping up around the end of 2023, due in part to the increasing consumption of caviar we tend to see around the holidays.

Though, I don't think this boujee trend is going to be reserved only for special occasions.

Despite popular belief, younger consumers have a desire to spend money, but only on things they deem are worth it. That's why when I made my 2024 predictions, I mentioned that we're going to see a rise in demand for elevated seafood experiences.

We're already seeing that with the caviar bump trend.

All other innuendos of the trend aside, I think we'll continue to see boujee seafood take over social media in 2024.
